The Origin of the Botafarm Technique: A Revolution Born from Meditation

Sometimes, the greatest innovations come from a moment of introspection. The Botafarm technique, which today reduces the time between harvests while optimizing space and resources, wasn’t born from a simple technical adjustment. It emerged from a deep reflection on the history of indoor cultivation and its evolution, a meticulous analysis of grow data, and—most importantly—an epiphany during a morning meditation.
The Evolution of Indoor Growing: Understanding the Basics
To understand the Botafarm technique, we need to go back to the origins of indoor cannabis cultivation.
At first, cannabis was grown outdoors, following the natural cycle of the sun. Then, growers introduced artificial lighting and discovered that by manipulating the photoperiod, they could fully control the plant’s growth and flowering cycles.
They observed that:
• With 18 hours of light, the plant focused on developing leaves, branches, and roots.
• With 12 hours of light, the plant triggered flowering and produced buds.
This discovery forever changed cannabis cultivation, as it meant growers were no longer dependent on seasons and could harvest year-round.
Cycle Optimization: The First Revolution
Over time, indoor growers realized they could optimize even further. Instead of keeping plants in the same room for both vegetative and flowering stages, they started using two separate chambers:
1. A vegetative room where plants remained under 18/6 for 4 to 5 weeks.
2. A flowering room where plants were switched to 12/12 for 8 weeks.
By implementing this perpetual cycle, they saved one month per harvest cycle:
• Before: A full grow cycle took 3 months (1 month veg + 2 months flowering) → 4 harvests per year.
• After: With a dedicated veg room, the next generation of plants could be prepared in advance → 6 harvests per year.
This marked the first major indoor cultivation optimization.
But after this breakthrough, no one really pushed the limits further… until my epiphany.
The Epiphany: Understanding and Revolutionizing Pre-Flowering
One morning, while meditating, my mind started analyzing the entire cultivation process. I was thinking about my plants, their behavior, their natural cycles… and then, suddenly, it hit me:
• The first two weeks after switching to 12/12 (pre-flowering) are a critical phase.
• The environmental conditions for pre-flowering are almost identical to the vegetative stage (26-27°C, 70-75% RH).
• During pre-flowering, plants don’t take up as much space as they do in full flowering.
Then, I realized that by integrating pre-flowering into the veg chamber, I could reduce the total flowering time by 2 weeks per cycle.
The Botafarm Technique: Optimizing the Rotation to the Extreme
By applying this concept, I structured a new rotation system that allows more frequent harvests.
1️⃣ Preparing Plants in Veg
• Plants start in 18/6 in the veg room.
• Once they are ready, instead of moving them straight to the flowering room, they remain 2 extra weeks in the veg room under 12/12 to enter pre-flowering.
2️⃣ Stretch Happens in the Veg Room
• As soon as the photoperiod switches to 12/12, the plants immediately start stretching.
• Over the next 15 to 20 days, they grow taller, but don’t yet spread too much laterally.
• This allows for higher plant density during pre-flowering, without interfering with future flowering space.
3️⃣ Carefully Moving Plants to Flower
• After 2 weeks in pre-flowering, plants are transferred to the flowering chamber.
• 🚨 Caution! After stretching, plants are taller and more fragile. They must be handled with care to avoid breaking branches or causing stress.
4️⃣ Speeding Up Flowering with Far-Red LEDs
• Far-red LEDs further reduce flowering time by 1 additional week.
• End result: The plants complete their cycle 3 weeks earlier in total.
✅ What This Changes:
• Instead of keeping plants in the flowering chamber for 8 weeks, they now only occupy it for 5 weeks.
• More cycles per year → More harvests.
The Results: A Harvest Every 6 Weeks
With this system, we save 3 weeks per cycle:
• 1 week saved thanks to far-red LEDs.
• 2 weeks saved by pre-flowering in the veg chamber.
📊 Harvests Per Year Comparison:
System | Cycle Duration | Harvests Per Year |
Traditional | 8 weeks | 6.5 harvests |
Botafarm | 5 weeks | 10.4 harvests |
🔥 +4 extra harvests per year without increasing electricity costs!
The Importance of Discipline & Precision
This system is highly effective, but it requires strict discipline.
🎯 Key Success Factors:
1. Precise scheduling → Timing is everything, even a 1-2 day shift can disrupt the cycle.
2. Strict clone management → If clones aren’t ready on time, the entire rotation falls apart.
3. Optimized transplanting → Adjusting plant density for pre-flowering is crucial.
4. Perfect climate control → The pre-flowering and flowering chambers must have identical conditions.
If every step is followed correctly, the yield becomes unmatched.
Conclusion: The Botafarm Method – A Revolution in Indoor Cultivation
This system isn’t just an improvement on traditional indoor growing; it’s a complete reinvention of the cultivation cycle.
💡 Why This Changes Everything:
• More harvests with the same energy consumption.
• Lower production costs.
• Always fresh, consistent product.
• Unmatched market competitiveness.
I have been applying this technique for years, and each cycle confirms its efficiency. If you’re disciplined, rigorous, and precise, you can dominate the competition with this method.
